Welcome Our Assistant Coaches: Francis Rochon and Charles Couturier

As the Chaleur Lightning prepares to begin its very first season in the Maritime Junior Hockey League, we are proud to welcome Francis Rochon and Charles Couturier as assistant coaches. Their backgrounds, passion for hockey, and commitment to youth development will be invaluable assets to our organization.

Francis Rochon: A Rich and Structured Path

Originally from Gatineau, Quebec, Francis Rochon first made his mark as a player in junior AAA with the Terrebonne Cobras, before finishing his junior career with the Collège Français de Longueuil. He went on to play five seasons with the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus, while completing a bachelor’s degree in physical education and later a certificate in school administration.

Francis also enjoyed success at the senior level, winning a provincial championship with Lamèque in 2016 and earning a spot at the prestigious Allan Cup national tournament. His coaching career has been just as impressive: he has led the Northern Moose U18 AAA and was selected as head coach for Team HNB U16 at the 2024 QCup. He was also named NBPEI U18 Coach of the Year in 2023-2024.

With certifications in Development 1, Coach Level 2, and HP1, Francis brings both structure and professionalism to everything he does. He now joins the Lightning determined to help build a culture of excellence both on and off the ice.

Charles Couturier: Local Pride in Service of the Next Generation

Born and raised in the Chaleur region, Charles Couturier came through the local minor hockey system before continuing his passion for the game at the senior level. Alongside his playing career, Charles has always been deeply committed to the well-being of young people. He first worked as a youth worker, guiding many adolescents in their personal development, before beginning a career as a police officer for the City of Bathurst.

This professional journey, rooted in helping others, reflects a constant: a sincere desire to have a positive impact on his community. Today, Charles brings that same dedication to the Chaleur Lightning as an assistant coach. For him, this role is much more than a return to hockey—it is a unique opportunity to give back by combining his knowledge of the game with his passion for supporting the next generation of athletes, both on and off the ice.

Charles approaches this new challenge with pride, humility, and a deep respect for the young players he will mentor. His presence on the coaching staff will provide a valuable human perspective, grounded in empathy, guidance, and holistic player development.

A Coaching Team Committed to Excellence

With Francis and Charles joining our head coach behind the bench, the Chaleur Lightning is proud to be supported by an experienced, passionate staff deeply connected to its community. Together, they will lay the foundation for a remarkable inaugural season—one built on development, discipline, and teamwork.

Welcome to the storm, Francis and Charles. ⚡️
