Chaleur Lightning announce coaching & management updates
Bathurst, NB – August 6th 2025 – The Chaleur Lightning Hockey Club announces important staff updates ahead of the 2025-2026 Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) season. Head Coach Kyle McAllister has accepted a new opportunity as Associate Coach with the UNB REDS men’s hockey program.
” Kyle has been an integral part of the Lightning for 4 years, playing a key role in the team’s transition to Bathurst. His leadership and dedication will be missed, but we are proud to see him take this next step in his coaching career”, said President Roger Shannon.
Assistant Coach Matt Wright will take over as the Lightning’s Head Coach. Wright brings experience from multiple levels of the game, including recent roles as Assistant Coach with the Fredericton Red Wings and Champions Hockey Academy Prep School. He has also spent the past four years coaching with Hockey New Brunswick’s High-Performance Program, winning the 2024 Atlantic Challenge as a Head Coach. In addition to his new role with the Lightning, Wright will continue to serve as Director of Programs with Champions Hockey. “Matt’s passion, experience, and connection with our players will ensure a smooth transition as we approach training camp. We are confident that Matt’s leadership will keep our team moving forward with energy and purpose,” said Shannon.

Additionally, the Lightning have named George MacIntyre as the team’s new General Manager. MacIntyre has been a key member of the organization through its transition from Fredericton, bringing over a decade of experience in hockey operations and scouting across the MHL with teams like the South Shore Lumberjacks and Campbellton Tigers. “George brings a wealth of knowledge, a tireless work ethic, and a deep understanding of what it takes to build a competitive program in this league,” Shannon added.

The Chaleur Lightning’s training camp begins on Tuesday, August 26th, with the first on-ice sessions on Wednesday, August 27th.
