⚡️ Lightning Home Opening Weekend Recap ⚡️
The energy was unmatched at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre this past weekend as the Chaleur Lightning hosted our first-ever home games in franchise history. With 2,147 fans packing the stands on Friday night, the atmosphere was electric, and our team fed off that energy to deliver two exciting battles. We close out the weekend with a 3-1 record to start the season — a strong foundation as we continue this inaugural year.
Lightning Strikes in the First Ever Home Game
Friday was a night to remember. From puck drop, the crowd was loud, and the Lightning offense didn’t disappoint. Goals came from Brett Yuzik (Bromley, Lebel), Zack Rushton (Hayne, McCallum), Will Clark (McCallum, Burtt-Munn), Ben Cross (Rushton), Ben Cross (Yuzik, Hayne), and Carter Bromley (MacIssac).
In net, Samuel Carreiras-Pata turned away 29/32 shots, giving the team the confidence and stability needed to secure a big win in front of our home fans.
Saturday Night Showdown
The following night, the Lightning returned to the ice to face off against the Summerside Capitals. The team pushed hard, with Ben Cross (Hayne), Malcolm MacDonald (Bromley), and Cohen McCallum (MacIssac, Cross) hitting the scoresheet. Will Morgan stood strong between the pipes, making several key saves on 35 shots to keep the game tight, but Summerside managed to pull away late in the contest.
A Weekend to Remember
This home opening weekend was about more than just the scores. It marked the beginning of a new chapter for hockey in the Chaleur region. Not only did the crowd bring unforgettable energy, but fans also got to meet a brand-new member of the Lightning family: Vortex, our mascot, made his first-ever appearance! We’re thrilled to welcome this rookie to the team and can’t wait to see him bring even more fun and excitement to future games.
We want to thank our fans for showing up in such incredible numbers and creating an atmosphere our players will never forget. This is only the beginning, and we know building a franchise takes time — but with your support, patience, and passion, we’re growing together both on and off the ice.
Here’s to many more great nights at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. Let’s keep the storm rolling!
